Another Desk Re-Do

Here's another desk that I recently did. It was also a Goodwill find. For $20 and a paint job it's quite a steal!
.
.
Before
.
It was already a cream color but needed to be freshened up. I painted the desk ivory and the drawers a color that I mixed using a light blue and tiny bit of black.

Shabby Chic Cubbie Desk

My aunt and I both worked on this desk. It was originally a Goodwill find. She did the sanding and the first white coat and I finished it. It would be the perfect little desk for someone with little space that needed a workspace. The cubbies would definitely come in handy for holding supplies.

DIY Christmas Garland

First off, I'd like to say that I'd love to have this garland for a mantel...but I don't have a mantel. I've always wanted a fireplace mantel to dress up, especially at Christmas time. I'd love to be able to have a cute place to hang stockings. Anyways....on to the garland. This garland is made from ribbon, tin foil, and book pages (all things that most crafters have on hand). So you can make this for free!
.
.
I love the look of book pages and the foil in between them gives it dimension and a sparkle!
.
.
.
So, this is really self explanatory, but for those of you who need a little explanation here it is. I cut a template circle of approximately what size circle I wanted and would lay that on my paper or foil I was cutting. I would fold my foil and hold multiple sheets of book pages at one time to cut several circles at once. I didn't really even trace my circle, just held it in place and cut around it. The circles don't have to be perfectly cut. I then ordered my foil and book pages and held them in a stack and poked a hole through the center. I just did a small hole with the tip of the scissors so they wouldn't slide all over on the ribbon. I then threaded the pieces on the ribbon. I would then lightly squeeze my circles to crumple them. The process is time consuming to get your garland done because each circle takes up barely any space on the ribbon. I plan to make my garland longer and hang it somewhere else eventually. Let me know if you try this, I'd love to see your end result!

Some New Pillows!

Here are two new pillows I made yesterday. Mustaches are the new cool thing, some people may thing it's weird to have a mustache pillow. It's just some geekery. :)
.
.
.
.
The 'Give Thanks' pillow is for Thanksgiving, obviously. I have several more that I'm working on for Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you're interested in one, I'm selling them for 12-20 dollars depending on the size. They're totally customizable too if you'd like them to say something specific. Some ideas are : a specific silhouette picture, a saying, song lyrics, special number, or even your anniversary date.

Goodwill Lamp Re-do

I like to search Goodwills for older brass lamps that are tossed away by other people. They aren't very appealing to the eye but to someone with a knack for fixing things up, they're perfect. The lamp in Emily's room is a re-painted brass lamp. So is one of the lamps in my living room. I score them for around 3-4 dollars. Our local Goodwills get stuff from Target that is new but doesn't sell in their stores. I can often find good lampshades to go with my lamps. So here's one I recently did. I scuffed the brass up and spray painted in light, even sprays. I let it dry then do a second coat, then a third if needed.

Emily's Six Month Pictures

I've had a lot going on recently and have a few projects to post once I take the pictures. I'll try to do that today. I did get the chance to take Miss Emily's six month pictures yesterday. I did it spur of the moment but I love how they turned out. Here's my beautiful baby girl:

To edit my photos I use a combination of photoshop and picasa. You can find picasa free on the internet. I have also gotten several free photosphop actions from The CoffeeShop Blog:
.
.
My most used action is velvet cream. After applying the action to my photo I adjust the brightness and contrast to my liking. I use picasa to quickly turn a photo black and white and to easily add words.

The Very Best No Bake Cookie Recipe

These are the best, delicious, amazing. This recipe has gone back and forth between me and one of my best friends for years. I'll lose my recipe and call her and ask for it, then she'll lose hers and call me and ask for it. It was a tradition of ours throughout high school to make no bake cookies when we were at each others house. So here it is, our wonderful, amazing recipe (and it's so much sweeter if you make them with a friend).
4 tablespoons cocoa
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup butter
2 cups sugar
Combine and boil, stirring continually for 1 1/2 minutes after boil. Remove from heat after the 1 1/2 minutes and add in
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup peanut butter
3 cups oats
Drop onto wax paper to harden.
Some tips:
Have your wax paper ready before starting.
Put paper bags or newspaper under the wax paper so the cookies don't leave heat marks
Have your 1/2 cup peanut butter measured and ready so it can be dumped into the boiling mixture as soon as it's taken off the heat.
Have oats already measured (if not all three cups, at least one measured out).
Good luck! Sometimes it can be hard to get no bakes perfect. Sometimes they are too runny and don't harden, sometimes they harden too much, too fast and crumble. Follow this recipe to a T and you should be good. :)

Busy Weekend and A Pillow

I had a pretty great weekend. I got to spend time with lots of family. On Saturday my mother in law also took Emily for a bit and I was able to take a two hour nap, do dishes, and take a shower in peace. It was so nice to be able to do those things without worrying about Emily getting bored with her activity and needing a change every ten minutes.
.
I also completed another pillow this weekend. My 'Number 3' pillow is available in my Etsy shop: icraftwithlove.etsy.com

The Etsy Shop is Finally Open!

.
I'm super, super, duper excited to announce my Etsy shop. After working to get my stuff together, take pictures, and post it all I finally have it up and running. Stop in and check out all of the things I have up. I will definitely be adding stuff gradually.
.
All of the things I make are filled with love. There is love in my home and love in my hands when I'm crafting. I have always had a passion for art and very much enjoy to make things. This is why I decided to name my shop I Craft With Love. So you can find the new shop at icraftwithlove.etsy.com.

Upcycled Spaghetti Sauce Jars

.
These jars once held spaghetti sauce...now they have a new life and could be used to hold and give little gifts or used on display at home, or used to hold crafting supplies. I used Mod Podge to affix ripped up book pages onto the jars. I also spray painted the lids. Very easy way to upcycle your glass jars.
.
.
.
A heart.
.
.
.
I think this one would be cute to give baby shoes, baby socks, a few onesies, burp cloths, bibs, or washcloths as a gift.
