I've always wanted a fireplace mantel to dress up, especially at Christmas time. I'd love to be able to have a cute place to hang stockings. Anyways....on to the garland. This garland is made from ribbon, tin foil, and book pages (all things that most crafters have on hand). So you can make this for free! </div><div align="center">.</div><div align="center"> <img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 320px; height: 240px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5673209631762493842" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBirCIDNSGtPY_qxhWDMPnKpeXuMAYF9MqLc5-YNRy4PTUfeMPBbiBdAchIuG3aXLeYCaikZO3skX4qYMjNlqGLZFD_JRoBKI4ATP8TwvmJRPpS577IUNOT0qhiVCm-nnEuoI89h-K6nZ2/s320/desks+027.JPG" /></div><div align="center">.</div><div align="center">I love the look of book pages and the foil in between them gives it dimension and a sparkle!</div><div align="center">.</div><div align="center"> <img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 240px; height: 320px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5673210039718239042" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGi_imVLRGfbKhEE2_I77PGMx7Swg8-knTNThqUGbn0MIifkBamNUetvSu7nASMg_y_il-v5QbJldrAuRZ0LJduXo0Sv4gFjbMycgmcJsJk9p0oWycoTjihuyG7O1knMSYX1ZvDE2fW_m5/s320/desks+033.JPG" /></div><div align="center"> </div><div align="center">.</div><div align="center"> <img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 320px; height: 240px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5673209842789939026" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibSEU68WimhJVlLSw4tki0fGpnupvcnv6QVRuaMU6KNBBx822xKpdM327uEsNV1lKx2TA8TIJqhE1ECWWeE7AD3HPqLLIPNlpvqC9WH2oirGJdozK7Iy1Uw-qfu69oPVNeaSlGcix0KXs2/s320/desks+029.JPG" /></div><div align="center">.</div><div align="center">So, this is really self explanatory, but for those of you who need a little explanation here it is. I cut a template circle of approximately what size circle I wanted and would lay that on my paper or foil I was cutting. I would fold my foil and hold multiple sheets of book pages at one time to cut several circles at once. I didn't really even trace my circle, just held it in place and cut around it. The circles don't have to be perfectly cut. I then ordered my foil and book pages and held them in a stack and poked a hole through the center. I just did a small hole with the tip of the scissors so they wouldn't slide all over on the ribbon. I then threaded the pieces on the ribbon. I would then lightly squeeze my circles to crumple them. The process is time consuming to get your garland done because each circle takes up barely any space on the ribbon. I plan to make my garland longer and hang it somewhere else eventually. Let me know if you try this, I'd love to see your end result!</div></div></div></div>Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01975981809508746655noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6639145197263568888.post-33327475256235730642011-11-09T19:26:00.000-08:002011-11-09T19:33:01.545-08:00Some New Pillows!<div><div><div><div align="center">Here are two new pillows I made yesterday. They aren't very appealing to the eye but to someone with a knack for fixing things up, they're perfect. The lamp in Emily's room is a re-painted brass lamp. So is one of the lamps in my living room. I score them for around 3-4 dollars. Our local <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">Goodwills</span> get stuff from Target that is new but doesn't sell in their stores. This recipe has gone back and forth between me and one of my best friends for years. I'll lose my recipe and call her and ask for it, then she'll lose hers and call me and ask for it. It was a tradition of ours throughout <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">high school</span> to make no bake cookies when we were at each others house. So here it is, our wonderful, amazing recipe (and it's so much sweeter if you make them with a friend).</div><div> </div><div>4 tablespoons cocoa</div><div>1/2 cup milk</div><div>1/2 cup butter</div><div>2 cups sugar</div><div> </div><div>Combine and boil, <strong>stirring continually</strong> for 1 1/2 minutes <strong>after</strong> boil. Remove from heat after the 1 1/2 minutes and add in</div><div> </div><div>1 teaspoon vanilla</div><div>1/2 cup peanut butter</div><div>3 cups oats</div><div> </div><div>Drop onto wax paper to harden.</div><div> </div><div>Some tips:</div><div>Have your wax paper ready before starting.</div><div>Put paper bags or newspaper under the wax paper so the cookies don't leave heat marks</div><div>Have your 1/2 cup peanut butter measured and ready so it can be dumped into the boiling mixture as soon as it's taken off the heat.</div><div>Have oats already measured (if not all three cups, at least one measured out).</div><div> </div><div>Good luck! Sometimes it can be hard to get no bakes perfect. Sometimes they are too runny and don't harden, sometimes they harden too much, too fast and crumble. Follow this recipe to a T and you should be good. :)</div><div> </div>Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01975981809508746655noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6639145197263568888.post-16546134632121339202011-10-30T19:37:00.001-07:002011-10-30T19:43:14.794-07:00Busy Weekend and A Pillow<div><div><div align="center">I had a pretty great weekend. I got to spend time with lots of family. On Saturday my mother in law also took Emily for a bit and I was able to take a two hour nap, do dishes, and take a shower in peace. This is the tutorial that I followed.</div><div align="center">.</div><div align="center">They bought their extensions from an online shop...I took it a step further and made my own feather extensions...total cost...$4.50 and I have plenty of supplies left to make more. I bought a package of feathers and a package of crimp beads (found by jewelry making items). I used the skinniest piece of ribbon that I had at home and a couple beads I already had. I would string my crimp bead onto the ribbon, place it where I wanted the feather then insert the feather and crimp. I'd add one or two beads above the crimp bead. I did this in multiple spots.
